Forklift Drivers are responsible for safely transporting products and/or equipment on pallets and housing racks. Many different types of shipping and receiving environments – such as warehouses or storage facilities – require skilled forklift drivers to move their items. As a result, skilled forklift drivers are often in-demand.

Whether you’re currently working as a forklift driver or seeking a job driving a forklift, there are a few key things you’ll want to be sure to include on your resume or application.

Your educational background

While it’s not a hard and fast rule, most employers prefer to hire employees that have at least earned their high school diploma. Be sure to include where you graduated high school, as well as your graduation year. If you’ve completed college or university, you’ll definitely want to include that as well on your application.

Specialized training and certification

Most forklift drivers should have completed a workplace safety training course in addition to earning their Forklift Operation Certificate. It’s very important to specify in your application that you have these credentials in hand.

Professional experience

Employers are looking for forklift drivers with as much experience as possible. They want to feel confident that they are hiring an individual who has done a similar job before. Since driving a forklift requires specialized skills, it’s important to state how many years of experience you have on your application. You should also consider providing a brief description of your past positions, including your daily responsibilities and any employees that you supervised.
