Many light industrial professionals are going back to work in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. At this time, it is important to consider the new safety precautions that have been implemented in workplaces around the world.  

For light industrial professionals, they should wear a face mask and practice social distancing at work. These best practices can help slow the spread of the coronavirus. They can also help reduce the risk of unknowingly getting infected by the virus or infecting a coworker with it.  

In addition to the aforementioned best practices, light industrial professionals should understand what to do if any of their coworkers fall ill at work. If you notice a coworker is sick at work, here’s what you should do:  

1. Notify Your Manager

When it comes to a sick coworker, it is always a good idea to err on the side of caution. So, you should notify your manager immediately if you believe a coworker is sick. At this point, your manager may try to separate the ill employee from their coworkers and find a safe way to transport this worker home or to a hospital.  

2. Avoid Your Coworker’s Workstation

It is crucial that a sick coworker’s workstation is properly sanitized, due to the fact that this employee may be dealing with a coronavirus infection. Avoid your coworker’s workstation until your employer notifies you that it is safe to resume work at or near this area.  

3. Open Doors and Windows

Let air circulate throughout your workplace if possible. To do so, you can open the doors and windows.  

4. Get Tested

If a coworker experiences a coronavirus infection, you need to get tested and self-quarantine until you receive the results of your assessment. In this scenario, you should notify family members and others to get tested as well if you have recently come into close contact with them.  

Although a sick coworker may inadvertently go to work, you should try to empathize with this employee. Remember, the coronavirus pandemic affects people globally, and each individual is doing their part to get through the crisis. Rather than assign blame, try to support your coworker and help him or her and your employer in any way possible.  

Finally, if you are concerned about working during the pandemic, reach out to your manager. Share your concerns with your manager, and you can determine the best course of action to ensure that you can work in a safe environment.
