Summer can bring extreme heat that makes it difficult to work in a warehouse. Lucky for you, there are many things you can do to stay cool while working in a warehouse in summertime, such as: 

1. Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the work day, as this helps keep your body cool. Water also helps prevent dehydration that otherwise reduces blood volume and requires your heart to work harder to pump sufficient oxygen to cells throughout your body.    

If possible, carry a water bottle with you when you work. This allows you to consume water over the course of your work day and refill your water bottle as needed. The result: you can stay hydrated and feel refreshed, so you can maximize your day-to-day productivity.  

2. Eat Healthy Foods

You may be tempted to consume fried foods, desserts, and other fatty foods at lunch, but these foods can slow you down. Plus, your body requires more energy to digest and metabolize fatty foods in comparison to other foods, which can increase your core temperature.  

Rather than eat fatty foods, explore healthy alternatives for lunch at work. For example, you can eat watermelon, apricots, and other foods that are loaded with electrolytes and can help lower your risk of dehydration. You can also enjoy nutritious foods that help reduce your blood pressure and improve heart health, so you’re better equipped than ever before to stay cool at work.   

3. Wear Loose, Light-Colored Clothing 

Loose, light-colored clothing is more conducive to cooling than thick, dark-colored apparel. So, whenever possible, wear loose, light-colored shirts and pants at work during summer.  

Wearing clothing that consists of natural fabrics may also be beneficial. Natural fabrics are often breathable, so wearing clothing constructed from these fabrics may help you stay cool while you work.  

4. Take Regular Breaks

You may be tempted to work as long as possible every day. Yet, if you ignore regular breaks, you put your health and wellbeing in danger, particularly in summertime.  

Taking a short break every one to two hours to help you stay cool. If you use your breaks to sit down, grab a drink of water, and rest for a few minutes, you can cool down. Then, you can return to your everyday work ready to perform your best.  

5. Beware the Signs of Heat Exhaustion

Heat exhaustion happens when your body is overheating. When heat exhaustion occurs, you may feel tired, dizzy, nauseous, and weak.  

At the first sign of heat exhaustion, take a break, get a glass of water, and give yourself time to rest. If your symptoms subside and you feel like you can return to work, you can do so. Or, if your symptoms do not disappear, call a doctor.
